This front porch was one of the main reasons we bought our house. We even had some of our maternity pics on it (like the one above). There is something about a front porch that is inviting, comforting, and peaceful. The song by Joy Williams called “Front Porch” gives me that same feeling.
On some of my most stressful days, a few minutes out on this porch helps me to refocus, center, and calm down. Is there a space like that in your home? Your refuge? Your place of calm?
Through all of this madness of 2020, I hope you visit your “place” often. I know I need to do that more, especially as it cools down outside. Grab a coffee, book, or even a glass of wine and head out to your “front porch.” Joy Williams says it perfectly…
“If never you find what you’re looking for
Come on back to the front porch
Say my name through the screen door
Come on back to the front porch
Whatever you’ve done, it doesn’t matter
‘Cause darling we’re all a little splintered and battered
But the light is on, what you waiting for?
Come on back, come on back to the front porchWe carved a story in these boards
Watching life go back and forth
You take it all for granted, then you leave
And then it takes a while to realize what you needIf never you find what you’re looking for
Come on back to the front porch
Say my name through the screen door
Come on back to the front porch”
